You never see Geisha. That was what I was told by one of my first roommates when coming to Japan. Geisha stay hidden - doing their job (and no, they aren't prostitutes). However, Maki (I believe the spelling is right) are geisha in training - and you do see them. At Kiyomizu's temple, in Kyoto, I was lucky enough to witness three Maki in training. They were beautiful - and I two quick pictures. This is the first one.

Geisha's perform for people inside their houses/places of employment. They pour the sake, serve the food, make conversation, play musical instruments and dance. They also train the maiko who are underneath them.
No way. If you want sex, there are plenty of places that advertise freely and openly about it. It's a big industry (though foreigners aren't typically allowed in the places)
Maiko *used* to perform sexual acts--usually only for their danna, and for their mizuage, or the taking of their virginity. It doesn't happen like that anymore, but if you read "Memoirs of a Geisha", it will explain more. Not a whole lot of detail, but it'll give you an idea.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
